Pehnava’s aim is to honor the heritage of traditional Indian clothes in our fashion collection and at the same time give the design a modern Indo-western look. For example Dhoti pants which are traditionally plain colored with a drawstring fastening have been worn like this in India for ages: why not give them a beautiful Indian pattern and an elastic waistband instead of a drawstring to make them so much more comfortable to wear? The Saree is probably the most popular piece of clothing in India. The Saree consists of an unstitched Saree drape which is 4,5 to 9 meters long. In the countries of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal the Saree is traditionally worn. Worn with a fitted bodice commonly called a choli and a petticoat called ghagra, parkar, or ul-pavadai the Saree is considered a cultural icon in the modern Indian subcontinent. There are various styles of Saree manufacture and draping. Sarees are mostly used as daytime clothing.
